How hamburger menus should be implemented universally in Windows

Categories could be put in the app bar. Just another icon that jumps you into the folder view or whatever page you want.

Possible, but reality shows us that's rarely the approach devs take, despite it being simple and available since WP7. It begs the question why that is not more common?

Get the Z3 Compact instead. The phone is exactly the same size of the Z1 Compact, but the screen went from 4.3" to 4.6". You have more screen real estate on the same sized phone, but in a thinner package. And you can use it perfectly. Often even more easily than the 920 on account of the size and width.

They said that they wouldn't be putting major investment in their Mobile Division in the future. Same thing with their TV division.
In other words, they decided mobile (and TVs) is no longer a priority. From there to going out is still a while. Furthermore, I don't think Sony is willing to leave mobile yet. First they'll try to stop using idiotic strategies like 6 months cycles.
Yes, they said they hadn't ruled out a sale of their mobile division, but that's not their top priority. They've also mentioned possible partnerships, funny everyone seems to skip that part too...
Sony knows that mobile is the future. They aren't giving up yet. However, they'll do the sensible thing and reduce their phone portfolio. Too many models a year is just bad business. As Nokia showed and Samsung has recently learned.

I wonder if the fact that Sony is still the third biggest OEM in Europe or the fact that Sony still ships more phones than Microsoft Mobile bothers so many people...

At any rate, the Z3 is still a better phone than the 930. And that's just a fact.

it looks like every WP ****** out there is a graphic designer and/or a specialist in usability, and he/she is either just just blaming the hamburher menu, either blaming and coming with a stupid design. i have to be completely honest about this. this concept si ANNOYING! how could you possible merge 2 totally different menu concepts this way? how about usabilty? how about design? hell man....stop hurting yourself from design. hamburger menu is not going to kill anyone, not even WP indentity. STOP THIS! indeed, MS did some mistakes when it comes to design, in W10, but this is not one, this is a CHANGE. i actually though to explain ppl the concept of hamburger, in a forum post, to explain MS mistakes, AND to come with some little tweaks that will keep curent W10 design and make it more useful. I just wait it for my new phone to arrive first, so i can hack the w10 on my old one so i could get the confirmation from actually using w10 on phone, if my ideas are good or not.

by the way, some of my ideas are not even new, per example, swipe from left margin(exactly, margin, not simply swipe from left from the middle of screen) to open the hamburger. cmon guys, hambuger has 12312312312 PROs and just 2 CONs: usability degrease (simply solved with alternative to open it with swipe), and loosing WP identity/ making it like android (which is plain dumb and dont even need a solution; btw, fact, hamburger was NOT android or ios revolution so stop it).

sorry for long post but im really frustrated about all those fanboys who beside that they too close-minded to understand a change (even a beautiful+necesary+useful change) they also think tey are now some kind of graphic designers.

you are right about something. that "3 ui paradigms" is one of the MS mistakes i was talking about in my post. But there is a solutions too(and i will detaliate more when ill personally touch w10 too, as i said before). solution could be something like this:
curently ms have used w10 design DIFFERENTLY in 3 big apps: mail, photos, file explorer. lets take file explorer as a example sample because it is the best one:

• use hamburger for NAVIGATION ONLY (such as "This device", "SD Card", "Yourname-PC". optionally you can add "Settings" here too, since they are a different page in the app too.maybe also a progress page for when you are copying a big document from phone to card)
• top app bar: on the left you have hamburger, on the right you should have nothing or something you may never use but is good to exist. too keep file explorer example: "Order by" sould be placed there or any other thing(s) like this. !!!!!! THEY SHOULD FIX the email app where on app bar, on the right, we have "Write new mail" button. that is a way too more important button to be placed there. which makes my point 3...
• botton app bar/ functios bar: here we should have 3-4 maybe even 5 buttons for IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS of the app. coming back to mail app, write new email should be place on a bar like this. when we look at file explorer we can see how that botton bar has functions vital for that kind of a app such as move, copy, rename etc. now what if 3-5 buttons are not enough? i mean, even on file explorer we can see how that app should have more functions. well this makes my point 4
• elipse button: this should NOT be used for things regarded to navigation withing the app, so no settings here. navigation is hamburger's job. here we should find ONLY important functions of the app, but fuctions which didnt make it on that 3-5 visible buttons.

so yeah, in my opinion, from file explorer, mail and photo. file explorer is near to perfect(waiting to use myself) while mail is a chaos. photo app is good, it just dont respect 2 things, placing things like "select" on top bar right, and having buttons' icons not folowing moder philosophy when you tap on a photo (eg that share and favorite buttons, with kinda nice icons but place there without a proper bottom bar and without them being put inside of a circle each)

as you can see. if you order things a little bit, you see a place for everything and also make a nice, easy to use, and also complex and not feature trimmed design. i also tryed to cut the river of details about this concept.

Move the hamburger to the right. I want the header of the text to be left aligned, where it should be. I hate hamburger eating it's place. After all, page header is more important than the menu.

For me the eye catching design is the integration of the taskbar and startmenu in the action center. I am interested in a more touch friendly and integrated design, less is more.

I think microsoft should consider the render of an integrated start and tasktbar in the action center for TABLET MODE. I have been working on some mock ups of what I was thinking of. It's more of a glimpse into the functional side of windows 10. I am not a design expert, but with my experience of windows 8 on my surface pro, I was thinking more across the lines provided by the link.
With the current reder, I do however feel that the buttons for start and some taskbuttons are still too small for tablet mode.
