How is the HTC Trophy a gaming phone?

IMO, the Trophy is no different than any other smartphone besides the Xperia Play - it can play some good games via the apps developed for the operating system, but it isn't optimized for games like the Xperia Play. This is also true of the iPhone 4S, Galaxy Nexus, Droid RAZR, Blackberry Bold 9930, and Pre 2.

Except... The iPhone 4s has the currently most powerful mobile gpu, by a clear margin. And it's iOS, so it is infested with games.

It says that it is a gaming phone on the Retail Insider app. I kind of laughed when I saw that. I guess it feels good in your hands and it has XBL built in? I don't really know why they would give it that title. Doesn't it also have good speakers? Who knows...

Yeah, I guess they mean XBL integration. In that respect, I like WP7.

The two reasons I upgraded to the Trophy was Zune and Xbox Live. IMHO, it is a gaming phone. I've gotten a good bit of achievements from it, and love that feature. And even though my girlfriend can get xbox companion for her iPhone 4, she can't get achievements on Tentacles. lol

it was a top of the line Gen 1 phone when it came out as the HTC 7. Verizon took over a year to bring it to market in the US. I like mine. It has a much better speaker than iPhone and, like johnc said, Zune and achievements.

I've come to the conclusion that the phone just had nothing else going for it. The Surround had cool speakers. The Arrive had a slide out QWERTY. The Trophy? Let's just call it a gaming phone...

The Trophy is sort of the everyman of HTC's first gen devices. It's a great all-around device but really lacked any sort of stand out feature compared to the HD7's big screen, the Mozart's camera, the Arrive's keyboard, or the Surround's speaker so they branded it as the "gaming phone" since they really didn't have much else to work with. It does sort of fit though, since the middle of the road screen size and relative thinness (especially compared to the surround and arrive which have bulky slideouts) does make it better suited for gaming than any of the others except maybe the HD7
