How safe is it to key in your credentials into a third party application?

How safe is it to key in your credentials into a third party application? There are so many youtube apps, however no one is official (i heard that the one created by MS is lame).
Do you dare to log on with your google account credentials from a non Google/MS application?

Well, you shouldn't trust just anyone!!! However, MetroTube and myTube are both very popular YouTube apps for Windows Phone, both apps being used by thousands. As such, I believe it's safe to assume those two apps, at the very least, to be safe to confide your account info in.
