how to best save battery with NVMe and HDD combo?

I Purchased Samsung 970 EVO 250GB and i have standard 1TB HDD now i wonder how can i maximize Battery life in this combo and limit the usage of HDD to conserve battery while keeping HDD inside laptop and ready to use when needed.

I was under the impression that Windows read all drives attached to the motherboard. Linux acts in a way you describe. Anything that isn't the boot drive needs to be activated.
