How to close apps in 8.1?

I've noticed in 8.1 that simply dragging an open app to the bottom doesn't completely close it as I've opened the app later and it's still at where I left it. This is fine, I like it, I just want to know if that's the new way of things in 8.1 and/or if there's a new way to completely close apps now other than right-clicking them in the left sidebar and clicking "Close." Mind you, I'm using Windows 8.1 on legacy hardware (no touch controls).

When you drag it to the bottom just hold it until the tile flips, then she'll be closed
