How to download GDR1 on Lumia 635

I?m not tech savvy and this is my first smart-type cell-phone (AT&T Nokia Lumia 635 - No Contract GoPhone).
When I try to download the VPN that I use for my laptop and tablet I get a message that it isn?t supported on this phone. A tech at the VPN says that the phone needs to have the ?GDR1 build,? and ?This build will let you connect via "L2TP with IPSec."
How do I go about downloading it?

simply go to SETTINGS >> PHONE UPDATE >> Check for Updates ...
IF there's anything available, it'll download it.

ELSE (if NO update found), download Preview for Developers from the STORE. Enable PREVIEW in App >> then go to SETTINGS >> PHONE UPDATE ... again.

Don't confuse this with Windows Insider - Dev Preview will bring stable RTM (release to manufacture) software to your device.

Thank you so much for your help. I downloaded Preview for Developers from the STORE and it shows on my app list. I also did PHONE UPDATE again.
I tried to download my VPN, but it still didn’t take. Then I went into SETTINGS to VPN to ADD PROFILE. My only option for TYPE is IKEv2.
Any suggestions?

You should be updated to Windows Phone 8.1 Update with Lumia CYAN (or Denim) ... Check SETTINGS >>> ABOUT and SETTINGS >>> EXTRAS + INFO

I show Preview for Developers on the Apps List and Start. Lumia Cyan shows on EXTRAS+, but not on ABOUT.

On ADD PROFILE / Type the only option is IKEv2.
