How to know if OIS is working?

OIS stands for optical image stabilization. I'm not sure what you expect to find by looking at the lens.

Agreed. The reason for the aluminium Oreo shaped disk is to house the OIS ball brearings and their motors. Hold your 1020 and shake it.. youll hear the balls moving around. Now hold the shutter key half way down and shake it again.. if there is silence.. the OIS is focus locked and working fine.

On a lighter note friend, Im afraid youll have to smash it with a hammer, look inside and theres your OIS motors and bearings all over the floor.. :)

Remember, photography is all about light, if your getting poor noisy photographs or camera shake, it could be you need to play around abit.
