How to read kindle (Amazon) books?

Does it worth it to invest in Amazon books as the app is outdated? Is it possible to use the book as a PDF file?

i haven't used to myself but any outdated app can give you stability issues and could turn out ugly for your investment but if you have extra dollars to spend then why not.

Officially, the books are available only on the Kindle app, and not as pdf. However, the app is still functional on Windows Phone (though it has not seen any updates since 2014). The PC app for Kindle (on app store) is being phased out in favour for the regular Kindle software.

It us functional for books but not unfortunately for graphic novels
