I can't figure out how to install an app that I have stored on the SD card. Help?

I've gone through every walkthrough, but they're all giving me dead ends or options that I can't find. Basically, I want to install an app that I have on my SD card (no I didn't pirate it), and it won't install. It was a .zip, so I named it to a .xap and .appx, yet nothing I do will install it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can you get the file onto a pc? Then you could try unzipping it. Perhaps the .xap or appx file is contained within the zip file. Just a thought.

Zip file,can't be installed after renaming it to .xap... Extract that zip in sd card.. Might works

It was a .zip file, but then I renamed it as a .xap and a .appx, but I neither worked. I found them on my SD card, couldn't find how to install them.
