i dropped (lumia 520) on its edge . now it has a sad smiley against a blue background.

the bottom right corner of the phone have a few tiny pieces of glass missing. At first , the phone displayed the main page , but the screen is unresponsive. so i tried locking and unlocking it again. the phone showed 'nokia' then it showed a sad smiley against a blue background. anyone know how to solve this? im on a tight budget so i cant afford to send it to the repair shop. thanks in advance .(please excuse my bad grammer)

Ouch. It could very well be bricked. I'd download the Lumia Installer Utility (can't recall the name right now) and see if you can refresh it.

You need to do a hard reset with the physical buttons on the phone.
