I got a dual sim variant, but is there a way to disable the empty sim 2 notificatons?

And the other downside of a dual-sim is the lack of VVM. If my back-ordered 950 comes dual sim I think I will send it back and pay more for the AT&T version and try to get it unlocked.

Yes, I have the phone. And yes, there is a toggle in the settings. It is disabled when there is only one SIM, but there it is there. You can enable/disable the SIM from the settings.

Sweet. Got some old international prepaid SIM cards I can dump in slot2 to disable that icon!

Did it work? I tried this on WP 8.1 on a dual-sim L640 and I could not disable the icon even after inserting an active and also an expired sim card from a different operator. If this is sorted out in W10M than I'll be one happy camper.

I never said you could disable the icon only the active SIM card. It will probably still show the icon.

I realllllly hope Microsoft is planning some update that will totally disable the dual-sim functions, not the least of which so we can get AT&T visual voicemail. Really they need a sort of US/AT&T update that disables dual SIM, enables visual VM and HD voice. It doesn't seem that difficult since that is all already taken care of on the 950.

The icon does not disappear. I got a second sim and put it in. Even after toggling it off, the icon in the notification bar stays there.

You can change the name from "SIM 1" or "SIM 2" to whatever you want them to be (like "T-Mobile", "work SIM", etc...)
Go to All Settings->Network & wireless->Cellular & SIM
Tap on the links for either "Sim 1 settings" or "Sim 2 settings"
On those sub-pages, you can change the default names of the SIMs (they default to SIM 1 and SIM 2).

Those changes should affect the display in all the UI's that currently display "SIM 1" and "SIM 2"
