I have an unlock code from AT&T and have a question

I had an old AT&T Samsung Focus in my drawer so I went through the AT&T unlock procedure and received my code. Their instructions say to insert a non-AT&T SIM into the phone and power up and I would get the message, "Enter the device unlock code." So if I borrow a friend's SIM for this power up process, is my Focus now locked to my friend's cell service provider?

Ahaha, no. It will be forever liberated from its ATT chains and free to roam to your friends carrier, back to ATT, or to new unknown lands.
