Official release of the Windows 10 mobile is not yet available, but it should be sometimes in mid December.

However, you could join the Insider Program and help shape the OS itself, that way you'll get to see how will the OS look like before others can.
Right now, with currrent build, things are better than ever. Many of us are using it as their daily driver and quite honeslty, i have never thought of going back to 8.1. I'm on the 640, so we have similar devices and specs, so you'll get approx. the same experience, which is great by the way.

As i said, if can't wait for the offical release, you can join the Insider program. If you decide so, we're here to help you.

How much had your battery suffered since trying the current build? Battery life is amazing now with 8.1 and I'm preordered fur the 950XL & been hanging out over their forum and battery life on those phones with Win 10 is night and day compared to our 640XLs!! I would like to give Win10 a drive but not if in going to take a big hit battery wise... Also is your 640XL faster or slower ruining Win 10? Thanks in advance

To be honest, it is kinda drastical change, to worse. I used to have up to 3 days of battery life, 2 days in average. Now it's a very rare situation if i make it to evening with 20% left. It's just what it is, many people will tell you the same thing. This is one of the things MS should start working on.

Performance wise, it is almost as smooth as it was on 8.1. In 90% cases you won't see the difference, maybe here and there, maybe when launching camera app and similar. I also have to tell you that i feel like it's getting warmer more frequently, not getting warmer literlly, but more frequently.

Those may be some serious things, but again, i've never thought of going back to 8.1.

P.S. I'm on the 640, not the XL, so you should get more battery life since you have a bigger battery in there.

I'll second this. W10M is quite acceptable as a daily driver on my daughter's 640 as well as my 920. Battery life suffers some, but I've disabled Glance and background operations for some apps like FB for now, and that seems to have helped.

Glance is suppose to use practically 0 battery.. Obviously Hello is disabled with the 640xl which is reportedly a battery burner but it sounds like Win 10 is more lenient in allowing programs run in the background?

I never used my 640 on 8.1, so I don't know what battery life was then. On W10, I get around 2 days from a charge under light use. Under heavy use, like web surfing for around 4 hours at a time, it'll get about a day.

I actually have no issues with that on this build. The build available through Insiders is the same (maybe a slight version upgrade) as what the 950 is running.

Well decided to take it for a drive, I can always roll back to 8.1 if its too buggy..

Upgrade went smooth, took longer then I expected but migrated my 8.1 stuff over nicely..
I imagine it will take a day it two to settle in battery wise..
Only issue I found so far is when I tried to change text message sound it crashed multiple times scrolling thru the sounds quickly.. Happens with ringtones also, thought there would be new tones?

I get 3 days + between battery charges with my 640 XL ... but I don't make many calls.

I use it more for a pocket secretary to give me reminders etc. etc. and for reading -- especially in bed. So much easier to hold for reading than my Surface Pro 1 tablet.

Love being able to tell Cortana to remind me Thursday at 2 PM to wear plate armor while giving the cats a bath and then come Thursday, even if I'm on this desktop instead of using the phone UP pops a reminder on the desktop to wear that armor

The thing is worth the price just for notes and reminders and reading. Phone calls are a bonus.
