I want to rollback to 8.1, but...

So yeah, I updated to Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview yesterday and as expected, isn't usable, so I was ready to rollback to the good ol' 8.1 using the WP Recovery Tool when I was prompted with this:


So am I basically screwed and stuck with this W10 Technical Preview? :crying:

Any help is welcome. Thanks

Actually when I rolled back my Icon It showed the same software version and it works fine, now I have 8.1 again

You are not stuck. That will give you 8.1 back. Have used it twice in the past 2 days on my 930.

Currently doing the exact same thing, if you put that code into google or Bing you will find that you will return to 8.1...finger crossed anyway, currently in the download stage.

UPDATE: couldn't of been easier, don't know why i was worried it wouldn't work, now back on 8.1 and all is so fast slick and fantastic again, what a nightmare windows 10 was , really made me appreciate how amazing 8.1 really is

Point to note. Updating to Windows 10 Insider preview or any other beta OS does not change your device firmware. It only updates OS files. So when you decide to roll back via the WPRT it detects the same firmware your device actually has and not the OS. So clicking "reinstall" will reinstall that particular firmware along with the official OS files associated with it. Thus returning your device to WP8.1.

I had to rollback my 930 after installing TP10. I used the "Lumia Software Recovery Tool" which brought it back to 8.1 (prior to Update 2). How can I recover/reset/restore my phone software? - Microsoft - UK This worked well for me. In order to get Update 2 you need to install Windows Insider and update. After installing that update avoid the next one which is WP10.
