I'd like to see this incentive program from Microsoft.

I'm sure this wouldn't happen but......

Call it the "Upgrade for Life" or some other thing.

Basically, you get a certain credit for trading in a phone/tablet etc that goes toward a similar Microsoft equivalent based on a tier type model.

For example you'd get less for trading in a Blackberry Playbook and a Bold phone; a little more for a Android tablet and phone and so on. You could split them up - trade in a tablet only or a phone only etc.

It wouldn't have to be an insane incentive, just enough to swing those that are either on the fence, or those that are unhappy with their current ecosystem.

I think an incentive program where you get Windows Store Credits to switch would be a good idea. That way people can replace the apps they have spent money on. I was glad I didn't pay for any Android apps because it would have made the switch harder.

That would never work for me... every time I build them up I keep getting Xbox live points....just way too many games on the xbox live marketplace to play !!!!
At least you are doing something fun with yours. Mine go towards Amazon Gift Cards for grad school books. :@

Yeah, I would love to see a "trade up to Windows Phone" program of some sort. This is a good idea! :) Even if it was just credits or points or whatever on Microsoft or Xbox stores, it would be nice.

I don't know why Msft doesn't take a queue from the Motorola trade-in program and offer a $100 credit to trade any modern android phone or iphone for a WP8 phone. It seems like they could pull in a lot of customers that way.

Why does it have to be Microsoft? WP7 has been a money pit for them.

They make very little on every phone sale, i've seen threads moaning that Microsoft don't throw enough money at developers, we expect Apple-esque advertising campaigns, then people expect them to find money for a trade in program as well?

HTC are doing a trade in scheme apparently. Why can't we expect the same from Nokia & Samsung?

Why aren't the carriers doing it? as they are undoubtedly the ones making the most from phone sales.

Me, i'll be selling my existing handset on ebay, which wll be far more profitable than all the above.

Nokia doesn't have the cash flow that MS has. Samsung doesn't make enough money off WP7. They still bringing in the Android loot on the phone front.

HTC might be may be doing a trade in scheme, but they has lost ground in the Android race, and need a #2 option.

Carriers already offer subsidized phones.

They also have the most to gain if wp8 can grab a larger chunk of the mobile marketshare. WP7 HAS been a money pit for them. And unless they want WP8 to be another money pit, they NEED people using their OS.
