IM Client and iMac

I have a disabled friend in another state that I would like to instant message with. He has a newer iMac. I'm running Windows 10 Insiders fast ring. Any suggestion on the best instant messaging client to use on both ends. The easier to set up and use the better on the iMac side.

Yahoo messenger works with Mac, Windows (desktop), iOS, and Android. and it's free.
Probably not available on WP.
