I'm worried about all the changes and complaints

hello can anyone confirm with the issue I'm facing with my lumia 720 the bluetooth icon not showing up at top while switched on.... Im not whining about the issue just want to know if anyone facing the same ... :)

somebody please confirm if its a issue or not.. :(
Not an issue at all. If you have BT notification on you won't see the notification icon until BT connects with something.

The people who are whining, i should tell you, you are unlucky to have too many problems. I didn't have a single problem which you people have mentioned all over the place. Anyways the changes are on its way. So please understand that personnels at MS are working hard on this issues. Support MS.

Wow... over-react much? WP8.1 is awesome...

Sure a few apps need to be updated and, if you are on a Lumia, you need the Cyan update to fix some of the buggy things, like battery life.

It's going to be fine people; step back off the ledge!

Re: Windows Phone 8.1 is going to suck a long time

This is a preview version. We install this knowing there will be bugs. The whole point of the pre-release is to get it out to sufficient numbers of people that Microsoft gets real world data on how WP8.1 performs. If you expected it to be perfect out of the box, you didn't read the Terms and Conditions when you downloaded Preview for Developers.

Been running this on my 928 and my wife's 822. No way in heck would I ever go back to the featureless OS that was 8.0.

600 bugs? Riiiiiiiight.

Re: Windows Phone 8.1 is going to suck a long time

Yes really...WP as we know and love it is DEAD. welcome to the world of WPAndroid

You, my friend, are an *****. But don't worry, so am I. See, the thing is, the smart thing would have been for you to wait. You went out of your way to get the update early instead of waiting and first reading the reviews on here.

But you didn't.

Instead you decided to dive right in and now here you are - crying like a little girl instead of waiting and dodging a bullet.

No one held a gun to your head and said, "Get the upgrade or I'm pulling the trigger."

But like you, I dove right in too. But I love the update. So I guess I'm just a lucky *****.

But you're still a little girl.

But sTILL android Facebook app is great on prompt notification.

People are complaining because they put incomplete (preview) software on their phone and expected it to work like a finished product. Not to mention most of the apps haven't been updated to take advantage of WP8.1. They've acknowledged that the preview doesn't include the new lock screen configuration and that updated apps are coming. I'm pretty confident that by the time the new phones are released many of the bugs will be fixed. As to whether the dev preview will get the fixes or we'll have to wait for the official update, that's anyone's guess.

GDR3 was a tiny release in terms of the preview so there weren't many issues. I think the smoothness of that transition set everyone's expectations way to high. Even that got a small update before it was officially released by AT&T on my phone.

Even though I miss messenger and FB chat, photo hub etc. I really appreciate the way MS is going. This way they can update stuff much faster than before. People will complain, they're people, but in the long run, MS is still going pretty much straight ahead at their own pace.

Re: Windows Phone 8.1 is going to suck a long time

, no OndeDrive uploading etc...
No OneDrive uploading? Where doesn't this work for you? I'm uploading to OneDrive just fine.. including "auto-uploading" my camera roll etc.

Happy with the preview. Even with the issues, which are minor for me and imo can be polished up.

A lot is riding on this for the growth of the platform and MS seem to be doing a smart thing by releasing the software so a broader range of users can report issues/bugs.

Hopefully they take note of what irks the loyal base and not bypass us to put up new glitz to attract new users. Markets share won't grow if people leave obviously and I can see people leaving if MS cant deliver with the official release.

I personally won't as I have a lil faith that MS will listen to us the users and take action.

Can I just say something? Its just that, the changes that have been made by Microsoft in the current OS, someway or another, they must have definitely thought them over before executing them. Its just that we have grown so accustomed to the previous version that it is tough to get it through the skin. I mean they always want to give us better user experience right? We may not realize this now, but after downloading the final build of the OS released by our respective OEM, we will. For example, the new games hub. There must have been a reason why Microsoft decided to put the games in the app list. You see, they are currently testing the new hub, and providing it consistent updates every other day. If by any chance, there is a bug and the users aren't able to access their games( they won't show up, like in the latest update, this is experienced by some users), they can still do it via the app list.

I know, the preview for developers version is prettry rough around the corners, but lets face it. Its NOT the final version and has to undergo A LOT of carrier testing before being released. So be cheerful, its just temporary. :) ;)

Its not working for me either. I get failure with file uploading within the ondrive app.

I dont use auto upload so that might work but manually uploading files is definitely not working for me.

I'm in Aus so mabybe its a region issue.

There are just too many ridiculous changes, like the new curser selector between letters.

You can put the cursor between letters now? :o

*checks phone*

AWESOME! =D

Oh, and very much this. WPCentral have been heavily pushing the "It'll all be just like the final release!" angle yet that's clearly not the case.

You could do it before. The new way was confusing at first but its not as bad as people make out.

I don't mind it and certainly think its a more elegant solution than the previous.

Update is really great. For those complaining about battery life it is cortana which sucks your battery life since she needs location on always.this is trade-off you have to make.

Have to say - I'm loving the new update!

The only problem I experience was the battery life was poor after the update, but I discovered that all my email accounts had defaulted to check for email 'as items arrive' which basically means they all had push email turned on! After setting it to check every 30 minutes my battery life is back to normal!

I know some of the layout changes, and changes to the built in hubs and experiences will be frustrating to some, but many of these changes are just things we'll all get used to, and to me, doesn't seem to represent a steep learning curve either. The overall benefits far, far outweight anything we might 'lose' (and frankly anything we do lose we'll probably just find other ways of doing pretty quickly anyway).

This software is described as a developer preview, but is, to a large degree the 'finished' product. What I imagine will happen now though is a very rapid release of either an update now that the preview is out in the wild, or a very quick 'GDR1'. Lets all remember, we /chose/ to opt-in for this preview, and we're blazing a trail so that the wider user-base of Windows Phone gets a better experience, and in the meantime we get to experience new features early. If we have feedback lets provide it in a calm, and rational manner, and not be shouty about it. Microsoft is a changing company that seems more willing to listen than they have in the past - lets not reward that more open attitude with flame-wars!

This thread makes me lose a little bit of faith in humanity. I can't believe people are this caught up in something so trivial. I have been loving 8.1, I haven't had any issues to speak of.

There are just too many ridiculous changes, like the new curser selector between letters - You mean the one that makes it easier and more obvious on how to move the cursor?, games showing separate in the app list - This one I understand, but it should be an option, I actually prefer it the new way, the removal of good FB integration and other - They did this for a good reason, being able to update the facebook experience indepentently of the OS. It sucks, but it is what it is, no OndeDrive uploading - I just don't understand this one. OneDrive use has not changed one bit as far as I can tell
