I'm worried about all the changes and complaints

FWIW I personally like this update, even having to go through all the trouble I have.

However, in the weeks leading up to this release,I also read what many long time members said about how this release was not a beta release, but what was going to be released to the public less some minor tweaking by the OEMs,also as much as it has been pushed by the online sites for anyone who wants it without giving clear and precise warnings,it is no wonder why folks are having issues with it,and is a natural reaction by posting about it. Many didn't fully understand until some here said that they should have researched it more.I did,and know exactly what was being said.

I disagree with saying Microsoft can't win with theses releases, they see exactly how things are going, the good and the bad prior to everyone getting it,and hopefully can make the necessary changes prior to the full launching or shortly thereafter. They have already made some changes, hopefully they will make more.

Coming from Android with it being rooted and flashing costume roms, being able to get this earlier is very nice, but more warning should be given before saying this is a gold release as many here did,go back and look you will see what I mean.

Like I said, this is a good update, and I only see it getting better

All I can say is thank the gods I was able to upgrade my phone, and now I'm back to good ol' 8.0. And I'm staying there. And to all the folks who are happy with 8.1, I am sincerely happy for you. But to knock those of us who aren't, is just plain wrong. Its not the bugs, as that's to be expected w/o matching firmware. It's the removal of beloved features, or needless changes that have us bummed. The added features, such as the Action Center, Cortana, sharing WiFi, start screen pics, and a few others are awesome. We just feel that they should have been added to what we already had. I personally, would rather do w/o them and keep the ones I know and love, since I've been without them this long. Everyone enjoy the Windows Phone version that suits you best, and for those celebrating, have a happy Easter. For those not, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Perhaps I should have said "Can't win with offering this to too wide of an inexperienced audience"
Been stated over and over that users pass over the terms of use and implications of agreements of these trial previews.
Ignorance of the terms is in no way an excuse for downloading/installing/then being unhappy.

Software providers don't pay millions of dollars to legal entities within their corporate structures to write agreements for us to pass over.
They know we won't read most of it and try to streamline for our benefit.
The legalities of software use are no joke now days.

My thinking is:
Protect yourself and the provider by reading this stuff.

The little circle with the cursor attached which you use when you are trying to correct a typo or go back and change something you have typed. It seems to me that with 8.0 it was a line that with a single tap in a text entry field would appear and move with your finger for precisely positioning the cursor in between characters. That has changed to a little circle with the cursor attached on top which you have to carefully put your finger on and drag to the position you want to edit. It feels much less natural and more clunky in my opinion.

If it is stuck at the edge of the text entry field, good luck trying to "grab it".

You don't have to "grab it". Ignore the little circle.
Pretend you're still using WP8.0 and hold anywhere on the screen.
The cursor will go anywhere you want it to, just like before.

I hope you didn't take my last comment ad to including you. It wasn't directed to you at all. Its the rude people who can't understand why the removal of beloved features is something of a concern for alot of us. I understand your point. I did as much research as possible about the update. Nowhere did it mention the removal of FB, Twitter and Linkdin integration (prior to release). If it did I wouldn't have dine it. I was lucky enuff to have an upgrade for my phone.

People just have to have something to complain about when they know it all.

From my experience, and for me personally, most people don't like to complain about anything. But when there's a legitimate reason to, we have the right to and these forums are the place to do so. Generalizing people is a bit juvenile and ignorant.

I have mixed feelings about this new update since there are things that I do like about it, but the bad changes completely overshadows any accomplismente the update achieved. To the point I regret installing the update. Here are a few things that bothered me and feel that most WP user would relate...

The first thing I notice was how hot my Nokia 1020 runs now and battery life is now shorter.
As much as I appreciate the notification section, now the on screen toasts go by so fast you end up having to unlock the phone to read em.
I originally fell in love with the platform because of its simplicity navigating its UI, now I feel they are trying to appeal to the complexity of Andrioid especially now with the loss of social integration in texting. Now when you go to a contact you cant just press text to reach somebody either to their phone or Facebook or messenger, etc. I like keeping my conversation in one place. By the way, the facebook app has an option to avoid duplicate messages and notices so that's not and excuse to get rid of this ability. Also reading and replying to notifications was more pleasing in the WP UI than on the Facebook app.
The Explorer app does not function right, when opening a link from say Whatapp it keeps trying to download the content instead of just opening it. Also it refuses to open desktop version of websites, I've tried pointlessly to open the desktop version of Facebook to no avail.
Whatever happened to the concept of hubs, now games are on your app list. Game hub does not update unless you open it, and there is no more recent games section anymore. Hubs!!!
If they really wanted to have Skype integration they should have an option to call somebody through Skype strait from their contact page.
Can't update or check in to multiple social networks anymore. Why?!?!
I used to like being able to go to a contact and view their pictures, that's not there anymore. Now you got to take a bunch of steps to do it... :eck:
I find myself restarting the phone all the time for different reasons, like when it won't connect to the internet, apps crashing on start up, dropping calls and whatever else that drives you nuts usually leads to a restart.
One of the most annoying is the cursor to select text. Why did they changed it?
If everything is going to work with third party apps, have them emulate the WP UI experience we liked.

I can keep going on but like I said, they have good ideas in there but the bad stuff is just too overwhelming.

I've been a loyal user of WP since the very beginning, but if we lose some of those reasons we fell in love with it, its going to be hard to maintain that following. Stick to the original recipe, simplicity and ease of use!!!

I know we don't see entirely eye to on all the changes in the update etc and whilst i may not agree on your standpoint and, as previously stated, I admire your enthusiasm and love for what windows phone was. But regarding your suggestions about bringing back certain integration you might be interested in reading this.

Not looking to change your mind or say that you're wrong but it does give insight into why these changes are happening and how they MAY be for the better. Although obviously opinion and usage will be the final determining factor.

Your thoughts on the article would be appreciated though.

Well, it was a well written article and provided insight for those who didn't realize these things already. I did realize them and here's my take. First, the whole app launching is just not for me. But second, i am not obstained from compromise. If they wanted certain things to be able to be updated faster, which i can certainly understand, that's fine, but certain things didn't need to go away all together. Photo hub for instance....and being able to see contacts' pictures in the people hub. And I'm sorry, but they should have left the messaging app alone...this is my biggest gripe (the next being the photo hub). Maybe if they implemented these things differently and not so drastically, while i may not have liked them so much, i may have been able to live with them and learn to adapt better. But, i can see why some would like the changes. I guess my real point would be to find a happy medium.

There unfortunately lies the problem.

“You can please some of the people some of the time all of the people some of the time some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”

There may never be that happy medium which is such a shame.

Re: Windows Phone 8.1 is going to suck a long time

picture hub is so dull in WP 8.1 it was so alive and fresh previously.... please revert back to that previous one..... i miss that look of picture hub <3 ..

Not really. The action center should be for all your apps. The Me tile should have been left alone.

Herein lies the thing though. the Me tile pushed updates from your Facebook and Twitter. How do you get those notifications now? Through their respective apps. Thus, your whole "action center should be for all your apps" comment kinda hits a jarring point here. As the notifications the Me tile would provide are coming through official apps now. Thus in my eyes, it is still redundant. Now sure, perhaps a "Social Hub" in which apps integrate and then their notifications come through the Me tile instead of via the action centre, could certainly be a possibility. But the Me tile never gave toast notifications, the apps do.

It's one of those things that you can't please everybody. Now me, I'm cool either way, though I will admit I did like the Me tile implementation, but it's a shame it wasn't fully fleshed out to include toast notifications, etc. Though it was a cool way of doing things. Perhaps if they could fully flesh it out and get hubs working properly again, it would be better. Think, Social Hub, Media Hub, Photos Hub, Messaging Hub, Phone Hub (VoIP activities like Skype would also be placed here), etc. That is how I envisage Windows Phone.

So yeah, we agree on certain aspects but disagree on others. You really cannot please everybody.
