IMAP sent email not synching

I'm using IMAP to sync email across my Lumia 820, Dell Latitude E7440 laptop and an old Mesh desktop. All works pretty well apart from sending email from my phone. This doesn't sync. When I send email from my phone the email ends up in a folder called "sent items". This looks like some sort of local or POP3 folder. What looks like the IMAP sent folder called "Sent" remains empty. Anyone any ideas? Thank you.

Laptop & desktop email client: Mozilla Thunderbird
ISP: PlusNet
Incoming: imap.plus.net
Outgoing: relay.plus.net
Network: O2 UK
 
Apparently its a bug that's been going on sin WP7.
I have the same problem and there are lots of topic on that matter with no good solution...

Thanks for replying to my languished thread. Appreciated. I've since seen the other topics to which you refer. Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. I'm sure I saw the other day that this still isn't sorted in WP8.1. Give us strength!
