Insane battery drain with Facebook Messenger - who else?

After the update to Messenger 8.0 my Lumia 820 (DP WP8.1 + Update1 + Hotfix) drains battery very fast. Often will not last a day and also gets hot more often (especially when on 3G).

I uninstalled Messenger, just as a test reconning the latest updated "always on" app may have had a bad side affect. After that my battery life is not recognizable anymore and the device no longer gets hot. I can easily do two days now!

Anyone else who has experienced that Messenger is a battery drainer?

FB messenger is definitely the biggest drain on my battery. After the last update though, I feel like there is a slight improvement. Hopefully over time this will continue to improve.
