I have currently Windows 7 installed on my HP laptop. I'm planning to install Windows 8. I wanted to ask will my laptop's specs would be able to run Windows 8:

Intel Core i3
CPU 2.40GHz (4 CPUs)
2GB RAM
DirectX 11

Graphics:
Intel HD Graphics 3000
Memory: 778 MB
Driver Model: WDDM 1.1

Also, if possible, can I install Windows 8 as an extra OS or completely replace Windows 7 (dual boot)?

Should be ok since win8 actually is leaner than 7. If you want to dual boot though, I've always been told the only way to pull it off is to install the newest OS first and the older OS second. In reality I don't know because I hate dual boot and haven't tried it in over 10 years.

Yep it will work, in fact its better than my laptop (I used to run 8, worked like a charm)

As for dual boot, it's possible, but i cannot say at the moment

Update will be fine. Also, unless there is a specific program that you have that has known issues with Windows 8, there really isn't a good reason to dual-boot the two. Lastly, considering adding 2gb of RAM to your computer. It shouldn't be expensive at all.

Thanks for all your replies. I'll be developing apps for the Windows Store using Visual Studio 2012 for Windows 8, so would that work fine?

The minimum memory required is 1GB, taken with a bucket of salt. 2GB should be good enough though I personally use a 4GB machine.

You really should upgrade that ram to at least 4GB minimum. RAM is cheap and development demands it. Keep in mind that all current versions of windows (Vista+) use 1GB ram just for windows. They then use an additional 1GB for optimization. Vista is not great at giving the 2nd gig back, 7 is better, but in reality you want windows to keep that 2nd gig. If you have 4GB ram, windows gives you 2 full GB to use.

Thanks for all your replies. I'll be developing apps for the Windows Store using Visual Studio 2012 for Windows 8, so would that work fine?
