Interesting concept for in car integration

Apparently this is something that is being backed by Apple and there's a few auto manufacturers that are getting behind it including my own KIA/Hyundai. Looks like Ford is listed as well so does that mean they are going to drop the Windows based kernel?

What kills me is that they had to use the Apple cable to connect it to an EXPENSIVE Ferrari. WTH???

It's been rumored for a while that Ford would be dropping Microsoft on the backend of Sync. That being said, CarPlay runs on top of whatever OS and UI that the car manufacturers want to use.

I actually find Microsoft's concept far more interesting though. CarPlay still looks pretty clunky to me, whereas I would enjoy using Microsoft's concept if that comes to market:

Plus, in this case, Microsoft's concept is based on a standard that all phone manufacturers could use (MirrorLink).
