International SIM Cards/Plans

I'm in the process of researching international SIM cards and plans. I'm leaning toward an international data only plan, but still not ready to go for it.

Does anyone have any advice, recommendations, or warnings about any of the popular alternatives available?

(Not sure this is the best location for this topic, but I didn't find another that seemed more suitable)
