There is a definite truth to that, in that people are more likely to complain about poor products or service than they are to to praise a positive experience.
I believe I read a study years ago that said people will complain to 10 people about a bad experience for every 1 opportunity to recommend a good service to someone. I don't know if those numbers were ever accurate or if they still are, but it is something to think about.
(in the wonderful book series the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe, Douglas Adams explained that there was a spaceship that was powered by bad news, because nothing in the known universe traveled faster than bad news)
