Is anyone here using different batteries?

I got my Arrive from eBay, and it shipped with EVO red batteries instead of the black one. I'm pretty sure I saw that people can use Samsung batteries interchangeably. Does this effect battery life for people who have done this?

I ask because I see people complain about EVO battery life (even though it's really an Android problem) and was thinking maybe I get worse battery life than I could be getting?

It's certainly possible. OEMs always recommend using stock batteries for the simple reason that it has been tested and optimised for use for the particular device.
