Is deleting the WPSystem folder necessary?

When I do a hard reset for my phone, say when trying a new build, do I have to delete the wpsystem folder that is on my SD Card (where I believe Windows Phone installs the apps and their configurations) or can I just leave it be and the system will take care of it?

My back-up files are all on OneDrive, i have three there, one for my phone, one for my AIO and one for my desktop.
On my phone i have no back-up file whatsoever.

That's not my question actually. When you put an SD card in your phone, it creates a wpsystem hidden folder in which it puts all the apps and their data. Should I delete it if I want to do a clean wipe of the phone?

Hi dlalonde, I know is and old thread, but do you still have the issue with the WPSystem hidden file? I have the same problem, my sd card is 128gb, and every three or four days I have to eject it to erase that folder because it grows to 30 or 35 gb in size, I don't know what it is inside because it never reports any errors when I delete such folder, but as soon as I put the card back it starts all over again, i'm on wm10 10586.107 Lumia 1520.
