Is it possible to receive message & call notifications on your computer screen?

Is it possible to connect a WP8 device to computer using usb/bluetooth and then receive call and message notification as a popup box on your PC screen?

I used this feature a lot on my Symbian device, and I was also able to type out a message on my computer then send it using "Nokia Communication Center" program. I could even answer the call on my PC, using the my computer microphone and speaker!

Very useful feature, and I have not seen any others with this feature except for Symbian devices.

Air Droid in Android requires WiFi connection, so you have limitation on how much data you send over the air. As well as not being able to use the feature when no Wifi connection is available.

I hope Nokia still has this feature.

I can tell you the standard WP8 app does not have this feature and that Nokia PC Suite cannot not be used with WP.

I don't know of any apps that are available that may help.

Toast messages is a feature on Windows Phone. It is that blue bar popping up at the top of your phone. It isn't an "app".
And it isn't quite what OP was asking for. OP was asking for software that could show pop-up messages on the PC while your phone is connected through usb.

To answer OP's question : Simply "NO".
Nokia Suite could do that, but that software cannot be used with WP devices.

Well that is a shame.

Nokia Symbian had some great features; and I can't believe that I have to give up a feature moving to a newer phone!

Care to name which one? It would be hard for a single app to perform this function as it involves the computer software as well.

Imagine how we felt when we were waiting for custom sms tones to become "possible" on our newer phones :winktongue:

Didn't realize that Symbian had that great feature. I wish WP8 had something like that. The closest thing for me is that I use MetroTalk (a Google Voice client) that will soon lose support. Google Voice can send/receive texts (through wifi and cellular data). I use Chrome Browser with GV extension on my desktop and laptop. When I get a text or call, I will receive a sound/toast notification on my computer. I can reply on the computer and type out the message (superior to typing on a phone) and send. Any messages going to voicemail will be transcribed. You can even make and receive calls through GV with some plug in. I wish M$ had some similar native call forwarding service.

Symbian was mobile heaven back in the day You could do just about anything with those things, and customizabiity even better than android today. Custom Roms were common ground and stuff not meant to work did all work thanks to those custom roms.
Custom sounds for sms/voice/calls, adjustable in any way.

If you are on Verizon you can open a tab and leave it at Verizon Messages. All your texting threads show up there and you can send and receive all through the browser.

Just for clarification, when you use Airdroid, your data stays on your local wifi network. That is, data goes from your computer to your wifi router and then to your phone or vice versa - it never egresses from your network and hits the Internet as such. Thus, it does not affect your broadband data cap. Test it by disconnecting the ISP cable from the router - Airdroid will still work even without the Internet.
