Is it possible to show online status for WhatsApp groups but not for individual WhatsApp contacts?

if i am online in a whatsapp group will it show online to normal users too?? and if that is can i hide that and does this all work vice-versa ??

Of course it will show if you're online to individual users... The only way to change it is not show you're online at all.
