Is it really this easy to hack windows 8 metro apps?

I realize this is a very old article, and I promise you I searched (three separate times) for threads that had already covered the article. If one exists already, blame Google, which for some reason powers the search on this site.

And here's a snippet:

He then goes on to explain how to change the xml of a trial app to make it the full ad-free version, etc. etc. What I'm hoping to find out here is has MS already addressed this?

You can take full advantage of the possibilities to secure the apps to prevent this. if you dont - its your problem
