Re: Is it worth to switch from Android to Windows Phone 8.1
Hi all, I'm one of the "Android users" who is interested in giving the WP 8.1 a try. However, I would know if it's worth it. So basically the reasons why i'm pretty much willing to give the WP 8.1 a chance is that I've got an entry-level Android device with 512MB RAM and well... It lags as hell unless I don't do some serious app closing / suspending , it has very limited multi-tasking capabilities (Chrome and FB Messenger opened at the same time and the phone turns into a whirlwind of massive lag) and the fact that the battery isn't good at all, I mean, with the wi-fi turned on the battery drains 15% an hour with moderate use(one hour screen time), however with 2G(not 3 or 4G) it basically murders the battery , it goes from 100% to near-25% levels in about two hours and half, and that's all with the minimum brightness. The phone i'll be buying , if I buy , is the Lumia 630 , and i've read reviews about it and it seems that the perfomance is generally fluid , and the battery is above average. Is it worth it ? Thanks.
P.S - I don't care about the camera at all , i just want good perfomance and battery life at a cheap price.
Yeah you won't get massive lag trying to run both Chrome and FB because:
1 - There is no Chrome browser on WP.
2 - Background apps get suspended.
IMHO finding an LG E970 or similar variant is the best way to go. If you hunt you can find a gently used one for $80.
Seriously, get the E970. Sharp vivid screen, apps load faster, better multitasking, better app selection, great build quality.
I have a 635 and would not recommend it unless you could not find/would not consider purchasing a mint condition S4 Pro flagship.
I like that the 630's shell is one piece, but it does feel a little cheap in the hand. Screen may be IPS but it is not very good. Contrast is bad, colors are meh.. Not something I would want to look at very long. Touch screen and the glass itself are decent at best. Performance is generally fluid when you are not switching apps. Apps load slower on WP, and most have some form of issue when resuming from a suspend. Additionally, most people find the OS dull after awhile.
Galaxy Light was a better experience IMHO, and it packs more features for a lower price.
Facebook and IE 11 Mobile on WP pale in comparison to Chrome and Facebook on Android.
If your expectations are too high you definitely will not enjoy the 630/635 and WP8.1. But they sure are a blessing when you are stuck in Android hell
PS to the fanboys: Almost every app has a resume from suspend issue. MixRadio will occasionally black out, e.g when starting a mix and hitting the home button.
