It's possible but that just presumes Google and Apple wouldn't be focusing much on closer integration + desktop like experience something similiar to Continuum.

Apparently the surface phone is delayed until 2018 combined with the face a year is almost a lifetime in technological terms then you through in the mix the resources Google and Apple have...

Don't forget Samsung may even beat Microsoft to the punch with a "good enough solution".

However none of these companies have what Microsoft has a complete ecosystem sure certain aspects of that ecosystem needs alot of work and such work is on going.

Neither Apple or Google have the amount of users on a desktop operating system so when you throw Windows on ARM into the mix. The entire game is changed completely, as that not only impacts Apple and Google (to name the biggest ecosystems) but Intel and AMD.

Sure, the world won't transition off Win32 completely as there are an insane number of variables and scenarios to consider.

In the simplest aspect:

Win32 -> Gamers, Modders, Businesses and Corporates

ARM -> Everyone else

Would Nokia (or whatever that Nokia Android manufacturer is called) be allowed to make their Android phones WP compatible? Or are there some rules in the Android agreement that prevent that? It would be great to get nice Nokia hardware and be able to flash WP on it.

Highly doubt it. BlackBerry has moved to Android, Nokia has moved to Android, and even the niche Nuans has moved to Android. Would it be nice to see another Windows-Powered Nokia? Hell yeah! But for now, we'll just have to look towards other manufactures like HP for instance.

It is more than possible, but only if Windows on phones (whatever they call it at that point) becomes good, and more importantly POPULAR. It's ok (atleast for me) as of now, but the ~0% market share just won't do the trick.
If you woke up tomorrow and somehow Win10M had 60% global market share, I bet even Apple would make a Windows phone.

I wouldn't expect any Nokia Windows Phone, not unless Microsoft shows real dedication and effort for an extended period of time. So probably never.

Oh I definitely doubt that considering that Apple doesn't make Windows PC's today.

Yeah, I would say that its not impossible but don't expect them anytime soon, not until Microsoft have clear solid strategy on consumer smartphone space. We are still on the unfortunate situation that most OEMs won't consider releasing Windows 10 smartphones based on what Microsoft is doing. There is still likely some few OEMs will experiment on releasing Windows phones, and bigger companies like HP still making effort on this platform to enterprise customers.

Nokia went to Android because people were asking for it and even the competition is very saturated, you will still get decent chunk on several regions, not as big as Samsung that's for certain. We'll see if Nokia will able to pull more users from Samsung, but as for the moment it will be very limited since they are not yet releasing them fully worldwide. That also depends how their hardware, pricing and support that will help steal users from Samsung.

Hopefully that they will. For now just don't our breath for it. So the hardware choices for Windows phones are fairly limited while HP still at least doing something and others like Alcatel. All that while Microsoft is trying to find the "next big thing" or the better execution for elusive "Surface Phone/Pocket/Mobile".
