Windows Central Question

I've been reading many posts from forums and blogs about people who used to update their WP 8.1 to WP10. And it really got me excited and also wanted to have a sneak peak on the new "beta" update. I have read posts that says that WP10 had their phone crashing, boot looped, wifi connectivity failure and etc.. I wanted to update though but it somehow scares me. If I update my phone to Windows 10 using Windows Insider, can I still update it with the official OTA release of Windows 10? Thanks!

It's not so much unsafe as it is unpredictable.

It'll go off without a hitch for many people, some might need to erase the phone to get it working right, etc.

The question I will pose you, is can you afford to factory reset your phone and spend the time upgrading, erasing, and setting up again? If so, its worth a try.

I think you've answered your own question.

Scared = DON'T do it.

If you are unsure at all, don't do it. If you aren't tech savvy, leave it alone.

I've tried it a couple of times and rolled back to 8.1. Why? Well, messaging disappeared, cortana wouldn't send texts, lots of resuming / loading when opening apps etc, having no custom ringtones unless you allocate to individuals, outlook issues with other email clients etc....

Don't get me wrong, it's visually pleasing, and operation is very similar to 8.1. But, stability could be an issue.

So, if you aren't sure how to restore your phone, especially if you weren't able to boot it (been there!!) I'd wait.

Have a read through the W10M forums. Lots of info on there, including the issues, and how to recover.
