So, last year, I purchased an AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020, and since, via the Microsoft store have had it swapped out three times already, the first for a faulty microphone, and an intermittent freezing issue, that required a soft reset to bring back functionality.

Second replacement 1020 from Microsoft, same thing, intermittent freezing, which over weeks, became more frequent, until it was once and twice a day.

Third time, new 1020 from Microsoft again......and the same issue. Again.

So this week, what happened? Yes, the latest replacement Lumia 1020 swap from Microsoft is starting to randomly freeze, requiring a reset.
I have insurance on the device, so I'd get swapped out, but honestly this isn't a freak lemon, I'd now be going to a fourth replacement. I'm frankly getting tired of redownloading all my apps, signing in to and saving wifi hotspots all over again, and all my services.

I don't even know if any more 1020s are available to offer. I know I'm not taking a downgrade 830 or 630 as a replacement. It'd have to be a minimum 32 gb phone, like the 1020.

What a disaster this model has turned out to be, despite the awesome camera.

Honestly, if there are no more 1020s available for swapping (not even sure I WANT another one), I'm good with just taking a check for the $500 I paid for it, and move on.

Were you able to take note of the IMEIs of the 1020s that were issued to you? Some stores might only be "repairing" your phone instead of actually giving you a straight-from-the-factory unit. Take note* of the IMEI number of your current L1020 and compare it with your (I'm sorry to hear) fourth unit. It should be different.

*- Privately: don't post your IMEI here or elsewhere (just a precaution).

No, they were definitely different. Different IMEIs.

I have insurance on the phone with the Microsoft Store; I'll ask for a Lumia 1520 32gb this time. After all the replacements---inside of one year!!---- I dont think they'll protest too much.

If it's freezing, why are you not restoring your 1020 with Nokia recovery?? Mine had battery issues and a recovery solved all that. Seems like an awful waste of time and resources by sending back a device that can be fixed very easily with a recovery wipe

I'm assuming they do that at the Microsoft store. If I paid for insurance, I'm not going to go crazy trying to play technician.

I don't send anything back. There are two official Microsoft stores withing 20-30 minutes drive away, both at local shopping malls on Long Island. I just sit at their tech support bar while they examine/service/replace the device. They also offer a free drink while you wait, ie bottle of water.

I guess. But how hard is it to plug it and press restore. Just saying.

Mind you I'm with you on visiting the store. It's pretty awesome.

True but I've had all 3: 1520, 930,1020. The cam is the best on the 1020 and I'm back to mine. But the 1520 is an amazing phone. Speakers are awesome and screen is much better than the 930.
