Hello All!! I recently purchased a Nokia Lumia 520 as a backup device to accompany my Droid DNA. I have had the Venue 8 Pro Windows 8.1 Tablet by Dell for about a month now and love it. I thought it was time to test the waters with Windows Phone 8, so I picked up the 520 on sale at Radio Shack on the ATT Go plan ($60 a month- unlimited talk and text plus 2GB Data). I've been reading about WP8 on this site for a while and am considering replacing my Droid DNA with a Windows Phone on Verizon in March when my contract is up. (Perhaps the rumored Lumia 929? if that's out by then??).
I have found this site VERY useful! I would like to thank the staff of WPCentral for the great job they are doing here!
So far my experience with WP8 on the Lumia 520 has been mostly positive... The battery life is decent (pretty much on par with my Droid DNA). Despite the Dual Core SOC and 512 MB of RAM, the Lumia 520 has held up admirably- performance wise. I don't play games on it, but I use Evernote and the browser and email and so on... I've been doing a lot of browsing on the 520 and there is zero lag. Overall I am very pleased...
With the possibility of Lumia Black update, WP8.1, eventually Threshold and Cortana, I can see getting into WP8/8.1/Threshold or WP9 and am very excited to be learning more and more about this platform!!! I like how it runs, it's simplicity, and the general similarities between Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8. The true question is, come March, do I upgrade to the 929 or do I go with the tried and true Android OS that I'm so used to and familiar with? Only time will tell. But if any of you have an opinion on this matter, your input would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks, and I look forward to meeting you all in the Forums!!
