So far it seems just like (but better) than my sons SP3 i5

Completely silent, great sound quality, Hello works in complete darkness and completely silent
I got the teal type cover.
103GB left after OS out of box....95GB after updates and Office plus my work stuff
It does have the vent holes but no fan .
It does get warm pretty evenly across the entire back (I would describe as tepid warm)
It is lap-able.
Sound is glorious!
Pen acts same as i5 in store
Cord is too short through (same length as the other versions) I cant plug in and sit without an extension (unlike my Vaio)
Definitely significantly faster than my 5 yo e-series i3 Vaio with SSD with 8GB of RAM
526.5 Mbps downstairs to Archer 7 upstairs

Love it..no huge negatives at all. Its glorious they did not have this one out so I took a chance on it. Right choice! I'm glad so far I did not do i5/i7 silence is so cool.

This is the kind of info I've been looking for.

I'm going to get a SP4 M3 as a Christmas present for my mum, she currently has an original Surface RT atm which is obviously well on it's way out but... it still has great battery life, how is the battery on the SP4 M3?

To be honest not so great (about 4 hours to 10%) BUT here's the deal its on High Performance battery settings still and I have done nothing to dial back battery usage plus I have been really using it and loving it.

I do believe if I dialed back the settings It would be extended probably near double. So they probably did not lie but in real world use at best settings like leaving Hello on (which is amazing) and the best screen resolution etc... seems like 2-5 hours will be the typical life. Its better than my Vaio and worse than my iPad Air (from work used very lightly) so its in the middle so far with one day under its belt. I also suspect highly TH2 and Redstone will help as they did in the Lumias tehy at some poind really improved the lumia battery situation so they could do the very same with SP4 IMO.

I have a Lumia 635 that I test 10 builds on even that has lame battery life (couple hours) until I tweak it and it settles in (all day). on a phone that is more important. So if major battery life is a NEED then get a Surface Book or other. If awesome is a need and you can deal with the size (btw the screen clarity makes it seem bigger than 12.3") then get this!

What's the battery life like?? How is the performance compared to the SP3 i5?

Same or better performance plus additional features of course... my son is jealous especially of the silence and type cover.
Battery life much better now that I tweaked the battery settings when on battery.

I was using it this morning in my "battery max" mode... heavy use for two hours was at 59% left before I reconnected it.
I feel this would give me about 5-8 hours of life when on battery with possibility of out the 9 hours doing the same as MS tests.

The main thing is you do need to tweak the settings AND use the proper periphrials.

I bought the Microsoft Mobile 3600 Bluetooth mouse..its very efficient too with "Smart Bluetooth" so it does not use much of the SP4 battery in use.
