Hi, I've been a Nokia Lumia 520 user for about 4 months now. Even though I love my phone, there is always one or the problem with the device. Most of the times the issues are resolved with help from one odd forum. But this time the problem is going out of my understanding. Initially I was using a 8 Gb Sandisk Memory Card for my Music and Pictures, but then due to shortage of space I upgraded to a 32 Gb Sandisk Class 10 SD Card.. It worked absolutely fine and without any glitches but recently I updated my music library, and the songs were doubling up by themselves! To clear this problem I deleted all the data from the SD Card and did an external format with my PC. Also after Installing it again I did another format this time within the phone. Now when I try to add my songs through the 'Desktop App for WP8' it results into errors, and none of the songs get uploaded on the device! And If I try to add the songs otherwise ( SD Card -> Music, using USB, without the APP), all the songs go into the 'other' storage and my music library remains empty.
Please help me resolve this issue! I'm too much of a music buff and really like to have my music on the go!

Thanks a lot.

hey shruti welcome to wpcentral ! and happy new year :)
that's weird you are having such issues. If you are getting problems using the desktop app for windows phone 8 , try the old method to copy your songs, i.e if you have your songs stored in your PC , just copy them to your memory card in Music folder. This is common problem in windows phone 8 in Xbox music . but this problem was resolved in gdr2 update aka amber .have you updated your phone to the latest firmware ?

I have faced a similar problem after switching SD cards. The music duplicates for some reason and deleting either listing removes the file. Unfortunately, this happens even if you have Lumia Amber. When you put music files onto your SD card, does the 'other' for your SD card show a negative number? If yes, then delete the music files one by one via your Music+Videos hub. Then connect the phone to your PC, and delete all the hidden files from the 'Music' folder under 'Phone' storage. Now copy the music files back. This fixed the problem for me.

As rightly said in the above reply, the duplication problem existed prior to the amber update and it still exists! As far as the solution is considered, all my music is jn the 'other' storage and i cannot view it in music+videos so i cannot delete it through my phone. Although i will try deleting my music data from the phone as well.

Thanks for the help both of you, I shall revert back as soon as I try out the solutions.

So I've a number of permutations and combinations to add music to my phone, such as:
1) Format SD Card, Unmount it from the device add music in the phone memory directly.
a)Using the app, giving me errors but adding the files, creating duplicate files one with the album art, and another with 'filename'.mp3.
b)The music files in the phone memory visible in the music+videos, but again when I look under the songs tab, each file is double! Deleting either of the file renders the other file corrupt!
c)The music when added through the app goes into Folders Unknown Album -> Unknown Artist -> file! And this should not happen since all the songs I have have been Downloaded from Nokia Music/ Nokia MixRadio!!

I'm at the end of my wits now! Somebody please please help me out and come up with a viable solution!
Thanks a lot.

It doesn't matter where you got the music from. You said files were showing up under Music+Videos when you copied the files directly to your SD card. Delete them using the app, and delete the hidden files. Copy the files back. This is what worked for me.

However, if you really are at your wit's end, there is an easier "fix". Though it's not really a fix. You could do a hard reset. And then copy the files without using the Windows Phone app.

but warn you hard reset will delete all your data from your phone so make sure to create backup of all your contacts, pictures and videos you captured/saved. thought your contacts ,pictures are regularly backed-up on your Microsoft ID ,its better to create a 2nd backup for assurance :). yes hard reset will fix all this that's what I did for my mum's Lumia 520,then I re-downloaded all her old 1950's song lol from nokia mix radio .

Yup I did it, did the hard reset and also did back up my data before the hard reset. Another issue how do I get back my paid apps?? :o I mean how do I retrieve all the apps+settings now?? Rest of the apps settings is not so much of an issue as the paid apps!
how do i get those back?? Please help!
I know there are two many problems and questions but i'm a newbie! :(

yes you can get your paid apps back, just search them in the store, hit on buy button, it will tell you that you have already purchased this before sit hit on install button and then you are good to go
for the cloud backup of apps+settings when your phone rebooted after the reset ,there must be a option asking you to sign into your Microsoft id, there if you entered the same ID, it would have asked you to setup as a new device or use the backup from the cloud. If you didn't and set as a new device, no worries, if you forgot your apps name you installed go to this link https://www.windowsphone.com/en-in/my/purchase-history

and it will show you all your purchase history(you need to sign in to before the list of apps populate). there you can find all your apps you have downloaded(free/paid).
sorry I am in college at moment so there will be many mistakes in this post hehe.

Not really an issue. As long as you're using the same Microsoft ID, you will have the licence for all your paid apps. You won't have to buy them again. Tapping on 'buy' will let you install the app since you've paid already.
