L920 still a good buy?

Sales of phablets are still dwarfed by sales of normal-sized phones. No matter how you spin it, phablets are a niche. Even within Samsung, their Note series is nothing compared to the sales of their other Galaxy offers.
I don't agree phablets are the new thing nowadays. I think some people try to make phablets the new thing, yet they forget, the normal consumer is looking for a phone, not a dinner tray or a mini-tablet.
The sales of the 1520, for example, are really far from stellar. Even the 1020, which is also a niche device, sells better than it. And it's not a question of price. It's all about size.

I'm pretty sure your mother would end up annoyed with the 1520 when she realized the size it would took from her purse or how un-practical it is to carry around a 6" phone without cargo pants.

(post scriptum - I'm not arguing the 1520 is a great phone. It is. I'm arguing that it's unfortunately great even in aspect where it shouldn't be. Like size. Just to clear that out.)

Phablets niche? I disagree with that. The note 3 sold 10 million in less than 2 months...more than our total number of windows phone sold last year I believe

THat is not niche at all. The 1020 could be considered niche. A niche is essentially a small minority.when a phablet series can outsell the total number of windows phones and even android phones, that is nowhere niche.

There is a reason nowadays why all smartphone sizes eexcluding apple are now in the 5-6 inch range. Phablets are the new thing.

If that was the case of it being niche, then the mini version of said phones would be more popular than their phablet counterparts.

The mini are the niche devices.

Now compare those 10 million with the rest of Samsung's sales on other Galaxy phones. The S5 alone sold 11 million in a month.
It's easy to think them big when comparing with small platforms.
If you compare Note sales with Jolla sales...duh, well of course they will seem a lot. But in the bigger picture of sales, phablets are niche.
10 million Note phones for Samsung is peanuts.

The 1520 is a niche product aimed only at those who like dinner tray phones. Just like the 1020 is aimed at those who want a powerful camera.
Just like the mini phones are aimed at those who want smaller phones.

We never get these numbers from Nokia or Microsoft, but if the fact that neither the 1520 nor the 1020 ever show up in the AdDuplex numbers, while WP7 devices are still there, should be enough to give you a hint at how niche both phones are ;)

Actually it's the opinion of a lot of people. Whether you like it and agree with it or not ;)

I'm in that camp, DJCBS. I bought my red 920 last May and when shopping for a pho for my daughter, didn't hesitate to snag a 920 in black for her. I broke a nail putting down the 1520 at the ATT store. The size is pocketable, the curved case (not the corners) is beautiful and distinctive, the weight of it feels solid, not cheap. I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I needed another phone.
