Lag when entering text in the youtube search box in MS Edge

I've seen this on the Amazon search box on the main page. Slow, as in two letters per second. Disabling extensions didn't help either. Weird.

not only the search, but the entire youtube site is slow if you choose the new material design version (where you can choose between standard and dark mode) on even my desktop and moreso on my SP. Since the problem doesn't exist using other browsers (tried firefox, chrome, opera), it seems to be an edge-specific issue
