Can the Surface Pro 4 be used in both the Landscape vs portrait view

Yes, the tablet supports both orientations, however it can only be used in landscape when the Type Cover is attached.

Yes, to follow up if you just put the keyboard on correctly (not backwards) and put the keyboard behind the back but still Connected you can still use both landscape and portrait.

Also true. I personally prefer it on backwards as a tablet because it sits flush against the surface and protects the keys.
