Live Tile Notifications?

Very new to the WP world. Love the phone, and 8.1 is a really good user experience. I am however a bit confused with the live tiles.

I received three text message simultaneously from different people. I only answered one, and left the others as unread. Shouldn't the live tile still have indicated two unread text message?

It appears that once you access the messaging app, the notifications are cleared. I would have expected it to "count down" the unread text messages, emails etc.

No. There is no count down.

If you go thru action center instead of live tile does it count down on the tile then?

No it does not. Those messages are still highlighted, meaning unread.

Thanks for the replies. So far everything with WP meets or exceeds anything I used with android other than the notification system. More of an annoyance than a major flaw and hopefully being addressed.

No flaw here because the logic is flawless - you have been notified and have seen the app (in this case, Messaging), not reading some of the new messages was your choice. They are still shown unread inside.

Then why bother with a number on the tile? If the message count is irrelevant then just change the rile color or something. Way back in my blackberry days the message icon would show the count of unread messages. All my old android phones did he same. Made perfect since and it would be a behavior I would expect.

The same reason Android does it with the dropdown. To show you how many you have, not act as a counter. They too go away after you open the app, until you get another. same as WP.
