Living images and adaptive flash

Not all my photos are living and some are, disappointing, any idea why? (Obviously it's enabled)

Some flash images don't allow me to amend the flash levels, some do...again, any idea why? (Obviously flash is used for the photos I try)

I think that the living part of images doesn't apply when there is no movement in the scene. Don't know about dynamic flash, since I don't have a 950 to test it.
