Loading screen on System Apps...bad direction

Hey guys,

I wanted to discuss Microsoft's app strategy and why it seems like they are going backwards. If you haven't noticed, system apps like Music, Video, Games, and Calendar now have loading screens when you open the apps. Now I know some of you may say that it's a PREVIEW the apps are still being fixed, but Windows 8 has been around for a year and a half now and they never fixed the loading screens on that, even through 8.1 and 8.1.1. I have to wonder if this is what they really intended for the apps, and I don't understand why they always have to go back and break things that work great. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

I haven't notice this happen on Windows 8/8.1 or when I had my 920 with WP8.

Seriously? Take out your W8/8.1 laptop, and open the mail app or the weather app. There is a loading screen.

You're right WP8 did not have loading screens. It was great. WP8.1 now has loading screens for system apps like games, music, etc... If you don't have WP8.1, then I don't think you'll understand the issue here.

No loading screen here (WP8.1)

The loading screens (on Windows 8.1 and WP8.1) only show when your computer/phone is slow (hence why it's called 'loading' screen). Many factors can make it slow such as too many apps/files, too many background tasks, age of the phone, etc.

Lumia920 with WP8.1 here. All Apps now "feature" a loading screen. In fact it's more a splash screen, because it shows the Apps logo instead of "loading", but it results the same.

I'm using Win8 since public beta and always was wondering if the "splash screens" for calendar, contacts, store and everything else will appear on a RT tablet too. While I'm ok with waiting a short time for any Program/App on my Desktop PC or Laptop I'd not with a tablet. Did Microsoft manage it to shorten the loading time on touch-devices or will you have to wait for your calendar to fire up on a Surface too?

They're more like splashscreens than loading screens. Loading times are often presented by the square dots going across your screen (or sometimes circular). Most of the system apps were converted to separate apps so they can be easily updated (and packaged in the final build for ota update). Splashscreens are optional, but they are there in case load time increases so you can have a pretty picture to look at, or rather make the user aware that the app is still loading.

It's not a splash screen.
It says "Loading..." on the screen and the little progress bar/dots flying across the screen.
Shortly after "Loading..." you sometimes get "Resuming...". Two for the price of one!

It doesn't happen all the time, but it does frequently enough to annoy me.
I see it the most often when opening the Photo's hub and App Store.

If you back out of the app and re-enter, it loads instantly.
Same for apps that you run frequently. But if you haven't opened it for a few hours, you get the loading screen.
Restarting the phone doesn't appear to trigger loading, so it might have some kind of cache.

Loading(small dots) screen is now more frequent in my Lumia 520 with WP 8.1 even for system apps and while opening settings. In 3rd party apps too it's present but i like how wpcentral app handles this.
