Loading Windows on a Kindle tablet?

So I love my kindle, but honestly I'm getting fed up with the app compatibility. Lately I've been finding myself reaching for the same apps I use on my phone... And they're not there!

I know it's possible to load stock Android on the Fire tablets (via Cyanogenmod), but has anyone tried loading Windows on it?

After some quick research I think the answer is that it's not possible. Kindle uses proprietary drivers and Windows OS may not have them. You're best to do some digging around on XDA http://www.xda-developers.com/ but I get the feeling it's no.

LOL battling licenses...

Amazon and their locked down hardware
vs
Microsoft and their anti-piracy software protection systems

I'd say it is a scifi kind of a hope. N_LaRUE is right though, if any mad scientist is on the case, they are posting at XDA.

It could be possible, but the sheer barrier that is the knowledge required and information us people just don't have won't make t feasible. Best to try to pick up a tablet that runs Windows to begin with, even last-gen ones could be had for relatively cheap prices.

Already looked into it. There isnt a chance.

Try ubuntu touch. They should be done soon.

Kindle Fire 1st Gen, 2nd Gen and HD are on the community port list for Ubuntu Touch (now Ubuntu for Devices): https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices

My experience with these community driven projects is that shortly after initializing them, they get abandoned. I used to flash UT on my GNex, then N4 obsessively. It just never matured. Most of those community efforts are stuck back when you booted CyanogenMod and ran UT inside of that. They never advanced beyond that except for the Nexus devices. Then the "container was flipped" and you booted to UT and ran the Cyanogen bits inside that. That is where most community efforts dropped out. At a deprecated level that is over 12 months old, is not suitable for daily use and has now been superseded not once, but twice in terms of software approach; flipped container itself having been long supplanted by another method.

I've not tried UT on a Kindle, but my experience following Ubuntu on mobile tells me that is a dead end without needed functionality or any form of support either officially or otherwise.

Im not exactly happy about your news, but it is helpful.
