Did some solid "testing" over the weekend and my solution of the 'slideshow' works like a charm. I created a folder with a bunch of different images and ran them a full screen slideshow while I ran my continuum apps, it never once asked me to re-enter my PIN. A bit of a workaround, but it's definitely something I can live with for now. Someone should write a 'screen saver' app. Flying toasters anyone?
