Lock to "3G only" mode in Indian ROMS

I'm from India using BSNL and here 2G is extremely slow and 4G is not yet out in my area . I want to have '3G only' option for data, to lock my network on 3G network.
Before amber update in my Lumia 820, I was able to use 3G only data using the ##3282 field test method.But now it isn't working after the amber update..neither in the GDR3 Preview. There had been apps like "3G switch" in the android which I was using in my previous phones. Any help in locking to "3G only" mode will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Did you change the Highest Connection Speed option in settings>cellular. And you should also select the correct carrier. FOr example I manually selected Vodafone 2G,3G.

Which carrier are you using right now?

Ya I've changed the highest speed to 3G. I get 3G signal only if I stand near the window. Otherwise it switches automatically to 2G.
I use BSNL(CELL ONE) Kerala, India in my Lumia 820

Before amber i used the ##3282 trick to get 3G only data.. In android the 3G switch app helped. Now is there any such tricks in amber?

It may be carrier blocked, Have you tried

Dial ##3282#
Choose ... Settings
Change network selection to 3g..
Restart the phone..

works on my 521 gdr2/amber

Anyway both are not working for me..

Before release of amber i used to dial ##3282 n press call button.. And used to get that settings menu as u mentioned..
Now not possible after amber update.. It simply makes a call to that no. (FIELD TEST)

Sound like it blocked then. because when you put ##3282# into the dialer, it should take you into field mode test automatically.

Oh ****! Now that 3G rates have been slashed for BSNL in India, I really miss 3G only option...
My data keeps on switching back to 2G mode automatically...

Isn't there any developer out here who can create an app/mod for HSPA only option? I thought it was quite easy..

Has to be done at OEM level, developers would not have access to what is needed..

You could always flash your phone with an Europe Rom that has the option enabled or has option for highest connection speed listed under Cellular Connection.
