When I posted on the introduction thread I was told to get all the updates before playing with or setting up the phone. My question is do you have to reset (FDR) each time the phone gets an update?

Nope. We call it HR (hard reset).

In the most cases , a simple Soft reset (holding vol down + power 15 secs) fixes all little iussues such like delayed screen notifications....
