excerpt :

For the first time on the Surface Pro, Microsoft will also offer a model with LTE connectivity. The LTE version will support micro SIM and eSIM, and will be priced slightly higher than models without LTE support. Microsoft isn’t revealing exact pricing or a release date, or even what processor will power the Surface Pro with LTE. It'spossible that Microsoft could opt for an ARM-powered Surface. LTE versions should be available later this year.

Thank you for the info. I guess I will have to hunker down for a bit until more details are released. :(

With the ease of using your smartphone as a hotspot, why would someone want to have LTE on their tablet? This means you'd be paying for another service plan which with AT&T is another $25 a month, but if I just use my phone as a hotspot then I have no additional fee? Just curious why this is such a big deal?

Convenience + no need to drain the phone's battery + GPS. It's popular with enterprises, and now that MS is selling to them, I guess it's one of the top requests from them.

For me, I just want to pop in the free line I have from T-Mobile into it.

It's amazingly convenient and don't kill the phones battery. Plus I don't have home internet so it's one more device I can create a hotspot with and avoid being throttled.

i'm betting they're not announcing until they have finalized some contracts with the providers, namely, Verizon. if you could get a partially subsidized Surface Pro machine through Verizon or T-Mobile by signing up for LTE, I bet a lot of people would go that route.

Okay, I need a very convincing opinion whether to get a surface pro i7 16gb now or wait for an i7 + LTE version?! Because from what I read so far, no one have any idea if that will happen (the i7/LTE) and there is strong indication ( from the link in the earlier post and another post here on WC about Windows 10 running on snapdragon processor) that the LTE version will come with Snapdragon processor!!

So give me your wise opinion people.. Pre-order or Wait!

I read a comment somewhere stating the i7 model does not have enough space to fit an LTE modem Judging from the Surface Pro (2017) release video, because the cooling system uses the free space that is available on the i5 models.

I hope this isn't the case, been waiting all these years for a surface pro i7, with lte..always wanted a surface pro, but have had to go with a the ThinkPad helix to get lte card. Been a trooper, but about time for an upgrade.

And yes, many companies give their employees laptops/tablets with internal cell cards. It's a must with many enterprises.

Unfortunately It was too big of a risk for me to take and I needed one asap. I still do hope the i7 variant comes with LTE for those who need or want it.

And I think they will release an LTE version with an i7 processor, although I didn't believe that earlier but I don't see a reason why they won't. And if I get disappointed I'll definitely be checking the new hp elite x2 1012 G2 which I didn't knew about until recently, it should offer an LTE version with i7 processor.. Only differences that I found so far between the two are the graphics (620 on HP 640 on the surface ) pen and pressure sensitivity ( far more better on the surface) battery ( same!!!!) USB type c ( on the HP) and lastly the processor i7( 7600U on the HP and 7660U on the surface).
Both versions are not available yet. HP may be available met month while the surface "later this year" available.. I'm saving my money for the surface but I don't want to wait long..

Hope that help who are looking for an LTE 2in1 devices

I can't get past that gold kickstand on the HP... but if you have to have LTE then it sounds like an option.

I think you're confusing another hp with the one I'm talking about which does not have any golden kickstand, at least not the one I saw online ??????

Ah, the one I was seeing as a direct compare to the Surface Pro... the new version has a gold kickstand.
