Low head phone volume?

I listen to a lot of podcasts at work, the podcasts which feature just talking are very low in volume even when up at 30. Put it this way I can have it cranked up full, have ear phones in and have a conversation with a colleague and hear every word he is sayin, I really have to strain to hear the podcast. I could blame the podcasts but they are fine on my iPod. Music is fine, still no where near as loud as an iPod but it does OK. Using a L640 but also have same issue on a 930.

Did you try different earphones. Dedicated Apple headphones are "known" to have problems with non Apple devices. Or what happens if you stick the plug more or less fare in the connector.

Not using apple ear phones, using Nokia in ear headphones but also have HTC in ear headphones, no difference.
