Lumia 1020 Successor

I am up for an upgrade by the end of the month. Do you think there will be a 1020 successor any time soon? Or should I just go for it?

Just my opinion; but it aint going to happen. The 1020 has not run its course yet. With the advent of the 1520 and the 929 no place for a 1020 successor just yet. Maybe not until Microsoft takes over production of the phones. They need some 8XX, 7XX, 6xx, updates before a 1020 update has a spot. Again; just my opinion.

In my humble, unimportant opinion, there will be a L1020 successor on the market as one of the first WP8.1 devices this summer. I think this falls into the "no brainer" catagory, as the L1020 was among the better recieved hardware in WP's short history. The Summer buying season is easily the second most important sales time of the year, and a L1020 successor attached to WP8.1 would just rock the mobile socks right off the world. Throw in MS will need something to try and stem the tied of relentless iPhone 6 (4.7" screen) and iPhablet 1 talk (5.5"), and maybe this could do it. We all know regardless of the fact Android and WP have pumped out amazing devices from 4.5"-6.4" for the last 2 years, mainstream media outlets and crap sites like BGR that pretend to be even handed though they are not will hail this as revolutionary. I think an improved L1020 41MP camrea (50-ish??) and a 4.7"-5.0" screen (Lumia Icon-like screen) MAY be the best answer.

I think the L1020 is a fantastic phone and in no way would I advise you not to get it, mind you. All WP8 devices will get WP8.1, and the camera on the L1020 will easily be the best out there until Nokia releases it's succesor. Then, it will be the second best camera for at least the better part of the year.

Also, mind you, my recent predictions also included Denver winning the SuperBowl by at least 10 points. So, there ya go.

So if you wait til 8.1 devices and it doesn't come, what happens when rumors of the next batch of devices come?

Its a waste of time to wait. Wasting money on an expensive contract price, for one. If your expired, get on a pay as you go plan ASAP. The sooner you upgrade, the sooner you'll be ready for newer tech next time. You could always sell/trade if you make the wrong decision. More often than not, waiting from something that isn't even rumored will just hurt you.

I find nothing wrong with this advice, so long as you are happy with the L1020 and won't regret it. But, this whole "waiting is stupid... you will just wait for the next rumor" is only good advice if you WANT what is out right now. Otherwise, why would you take it? I have been sitting on an upgrade since late November. There is a phone I like (L920) but is a little long in the tooth and is missing that high def screen I am longing for, and another I like a ton (L1520), just not at the price considering the size is little much for me. So, I wait. No biggie, I will see what is coming, and if I do not think there are better options, I will decide then based on gut feeling which I want.

The L1020 isn't going anywhere. It will be updated to WP 8.1. It will still rock the same amazing camera tech. If you want it, definitely do not talk yourself out of it. Grab it, enjoy it. My daughter owns it, got in December, and feels it is the best thing she owns right now. Just loves it.

BUT.... If you are not in love with it, relax. See what is rumored in the next 2-3 months, and make a decision then.
