Lumia 1520 is the best phone ever

Yep. I moved to a 1520 from a Lumia Icon. While the Icon was a great phone the 1520 is better. The only thing the Icon had going for it was wireless charging. Other than that the 1520:
  • has better battery life
  • has better sound
  • glance
  • tap-to-wake (maybe Denim made this work for the Icon, not sure)
  • micoSD slot (love my extra storage)
  • bigger screen
  • feels more slim in the hand
  • capacitve buttons aren't painted, so when it's off it's just a beautiful all-black face with "Nokia" at the top
  • Doesn't have a ridiculously large Verizon logo and name at the top
  • Comes in different colors

Funny I've had kids come up to me with my hulk saying how cool it looks... Hands down my favorite camera in a phone. Now if we can only optimize that scroll/tap issue hmmm.

Ironically, out of the 24 tiles on my start screen, 16 are the smallest size. I just don't like my start screen to scroll - if there's something I need that's not front+centre, then I go to my app list.

24 tiles? Geez, my ADHD/OCD/Bi-Polar disease/Autism/Plain Crazy can't handle that much info. I have 5 large and 5 medium, the rest gets a left swipe.

The down side of the 1520 is the screen. Very large (so great for some, awful for others), the dodgy tap flaw which seems like a h/w issue, and it's only LCD. Coming from an 820 I could never give up beautiful amoled. Also, the screen has significantly lower ppi than the 930.

I get why folk like the 1520. I do think it may have grabbed my attention a bit more if the screen was as beautiful as the 930's and didn't have tap issues. I would still have preferred the 930's size though. If only it had an SD slot it would be perfect. To me, that is the real advantage the 1520 has, but it is not enough for me to offset the screen issues.

I don't remember the last time I suffered from a phantom tap and I don't really see many queries raised about it recently, if at all. I think you can safely assume it's no longer a current issue with the phone.

I had heard that some users were still getting the tap issue even with the 1520.3 model, but I hope that was just false info. If MS have fixed it an announcement might be useful. Still, the fact it is only LCD, has inferior ppi and is (for me) too large still counts it out. I may have tried that size if it was a beautiful, high ppi amoled screen. I think I would still have taken a 930 but the choice would have been very tough. However, once I moved to amoled there was no going back. It is to die for. 😍

Amoled is one of the big reasons the 830 is a downgrade from the 820 and why the 930 was the obvious upgrade for us 820 lovers.

Although I agree the on the amoled part, the PPI on the 1520 is not inferior... there's no reason to need a 400 500 or 600ppi screen when the human eye can't depict pixels past 300, and also the spec card always gets used against lumias and androids but no one evr stays anything about the iPhones specs..the Lumia 1520 screen is FULL HD compared to the mere 720p display of the iPhone 6 a..only the 6 plus has full HD..

I love this phone. 3rd time I have had it. This time a nice glossy red version. That was mint until my daughter kicked it out of my hand when she was playing. Slid on our hardwood and scratched the screen. I guess that screen protector on order isn't needed anymore lol :( Ugh.

A fantastic device to view movies and edit pictures. Best outdoor viewing of any phone I have owned.
I know we are focusing on what this phone offers but I have had the Note 1-3, Samsung s1-s5, iPhone -iPhone 5S, Lumia 920, 1020, and 930 to compare to. It holds its own against the competition!

You make a good case. Thinking about it, it's not really the ppi that helps. It is that amoled screens effectively both blur and sharpen each pixel at the same time. Love that amoled. The advantages of CRT without the down sides.

I did a comparison of the LG G3 and my Lumia 1520 and I honestly couldn't tell the difference.

2K makes sense for Tablets but for phones? Kinda like a spec war, not really an improvement. On paper, it is an improvement but in real setting, majority couldn't tell the difference. I'm not saying that I don't want 2K on my phone, I just find it unnecessary but if Microsoft were to actually make a phone with glorious 2K, I'm fine with it as long as battery life wont suffer. The LG G3 had major battery and heating problems which is connected to the screen and processor.

Battery life>>>>>>2K screens

On topic, I agree. The 1520 is the best phone ever. The best phone I used. Everything from the camera to battery life to screen size to expandable storage. Everything is on point. The phantom touch is annoying but I got used to it.

this is what I love the Folders for. Have like 5-6 folders pinned (different sizes too), cca 8 tiles in each, no need to scroll my home screen ever :)
